June is Gay Pride Month. Let’s Celebrate with Pride.
There are so many important days this month that have to do with how far the LGBT+ community has come. The riot that started in 1969 in Greenwich Village, NYC has brought the country to so many colorful changes.
June 28, 1969-The Stonewall Inn was raided by NYC police.
The patrons, staff and neighbors stood up for themselves and rioted out onto the street. Tired of police harassment. They needed a place where they felt safe without retribution.
June 28, 1970- One year later, the official First Pride Parade happened in NYC commemorating the Stonewall Riots.
June 25, 1978-Artist, Gilbert Baker, was commissioned by Harvey Milk, to design the now famous rainbow flag.
June 1999-President Bill Clinton officially acknowledged June as Gay Pride Month.
June 26, 2015-The Supreme Court makes same sex marriage legal in all 50 States.
This was surely a great reason to raise that rainbow flag. Check out a parade or two. (Wear a mask, and social distance, of course,) They pretty much have them in all 50 states. Stay in your house. Have a parade around your living room. Get your children and pets involved. Grab your flag, throw on some glittery or rainbow clothes. What a great occasion to celebrate!!!
