Today marks the 76th Anniversary of D-Day or Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy. Codenamed Operation Neptune, the largest amphibious invasion in history began on June 6, 1944 when the Allies, 156,000 British, American, and Canadian forces, landed on five beaches on the coast in Normandy, France.

This amazing military assault turned the tides of WWII.. By August 1944 the Allied Forces liberated Paris, Northern France, and began the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi Germany control. The Nazis days were numbered after this momentous battle.

Today is a day to celebrate, but not in the party kind of way. Sit back and think about the sacrifices of the soldiers, what they were fighting for and how they together turned the tide and changed what could have been quite a different outcome.

Pick a movie or a good book to read. Head back 76 years in history and be a voyeur into what life may have been like for those who fought bravely on those five beaches that changed the world.
